JOB TITLE: Tractor Operator (Grounds Maintenance)

FULL-TIME: 40 WORK SCHEDULE: M-F 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (with occasional Saturday work)
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY:
Responsible for mowing of grass in assigned work area safely and efficiently, in accordance with quality specifications. Performs scheduled maintenance and inspections for assigned equipment. Ensures that all services performed are in accordance with contract requirements and company policy. Maintains a new and professional appearance and leaves a clean, orderly work area at each job site.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specifics are Outlined in the Performance Work Statement):
Current members working on the Laborer's International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union #320, on the RSA Grounds Maintenance contract will receive first consideration.
First Consideration:
Current members working on the Laborer's International Union of North America, Local Union #366, on the RSA Janitorial contract will receive first consideration.
Second Consideration:
Phoenix internal and programmatic applicants, and individuals with disabilities, will receive next consideration after incumbent contract employees.

- Previous experience operating mowing equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and to work independently.
- History of producing quality work consistently.
- Must be authorized for coverage under agency insurance if operating agency vehicle, have ga ood driving record, valid driver’s license, and/or required level of personal auto insurance.
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check, per company requirements.
- Listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with tact and maintain confidentiality.
- Adequate ability in communicating in spoken conversation – adequate volume of speech.
- Ability to effectively build and maintain positive working relationships with management and peers.
- Current Phoenix employees only: To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:
- No more than a Step 1 discipline in the last 12 months.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specifics are Outlined in the Performance Work Statement):
- Mow assigned areas according to the specifications and quality guidelines as indicated by the zone manager and crew leader.
- Perform all daily and periodic inspections and maintenance tasks on assigned equipment.
- Check with the lead/zone manager for any specific instructions.
- Use equipment only for the work it was intended for to avoid damage to the equipment, the grounds, and other property.
- Know all safety rules concerning your equipment and work according to them. Follow safety rules and procedures, e.g., PPE is worn, proper work methods are used, and equipment safety devices are in place and operating. Immediately bring any safety issues to the attention of your crew leader and/or zone manager.
- Observe established break times and the beginning and end of the workday.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties as required to fulfill customer contract obligations or changes based on customer needs.
- Ability to perform work outdoors in all seasons (outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather; Work is expected to continue during light rains).
- Ability to operate hand tools, power equipment (string trimmers, blowers, chain saws, etc.).
- Ability to sit and operate a tractor/mower for up to 2 hours at a time on uneven and sometimes rough terrain.
- Physical stamina to work at least 8 hours per day.
- Ability to be independently mobile on all surfaces and in all situations. This position requires considerable walking for up to 6 to 8 hours per day on uneven and sometimes rough terrain (e.g., outdoor unfinished grounds, lawns, paved/finished surface, and includes up to 45 degrees).
- Ability to safely retrieve items weighing up to 50 pounds from high and low areas, and the ability to safely transport these items from one work area to the next.
- Ability to work alone for extended periods of time.
- Adequate ability for conversation use, telephone use, and emergency information systems
- Must be able to change routine positively.
